1928, Beginning in the world of cycling

After turning 20, along with other friends from the village, Nicolau decides to start out in the world of cycling. Although he was a beginner, he achieved quite remarkable performances and shows a huge potential in races, both on the velodrome and on the road. <\/p>\n

Josep Nicolau, along with other village citizens has started out in the world of cycling. Right now, it is the mass sport and he is seduced by the idea of competing officially. His objective is to start doing it in this exact year, probably at the local races in August. <\/p>\n

The event which catapults and launches his trajectory takes place on August 5th, 1928, in Son Gelabert with the dispute of two races during the patron saint festivities. Mateu Gual, from Sant Joan, Rafel Pou and Pedro Oliver, from Algaida and Josep Nicolau are participants in such races. On that day, Miquel Amengual Martorell, who works at the newspaper \u00daltima Hora, is pleasingly surprised by the sprint between Gual and Nicolau. His fascination is such that he realises the potential of the young cyclist and suggests to Josep going to the city to make his debut in Tirador, the cathedral of cycling. <\/p>\n
